Department/unit-wise distribution will be announced later.
Junior Assistant (Non-Security) in the Tamil Nadu Ministerial Service is the largest single entry, with 2,610 vacancies. The five largest entries—Junior Assistant (Non-Security), Typist in the Ministerial/Secretariat services, Junior Assistant (Accounts), Judicial Ministerial Typist and VAO—account for 4,556 vacancies. The full table above is based on the Commission’s post-code list; use the official PDF to confirm pay level, backlog markings and eligibility for the post you select.
Which posts are included in the TNPSC Group 4 notification?
The 46 post entries include:
- Village Administrative Officer (VAO)
- Junior Assistant (Security and Non-Security)
- Bill Collector and Revenue Assistant
- Typist and Junior Assistant-cum-Typist
- Steno-Typist (Grade III), Shorthand Typist and Personal Clerk
- Junior Administrative Assistant and Junior Administrative Assistant (Computer Operator)
- Executive Officer (Grade IV)
- Junior Inspector of Co-operative Societies and Record Clerk

Some posts are attached to specific boards, corporations or services. A common Group IV application does not mean every post has the same educational or technical requirements.
Who is eligible for TNPSC Group 4 2026?
Educational qualification
The minimum general educational qualification for several posts is a pass in the SSLC examination. However, the notification specifies different requirements for individual posts. Examples include:
- VAO and many Junior Assistant posts: Minimum General Educational Qualification as defined in the notification.
- Junior Assistant (Accounts): A B.Com. degree is prescribed for the relevant organisation.
- Steno-Typist and Typist: Typewriting and/or shorthand certificates at the specified grades are required for the relevant post codes.
- Forest Guard with Driving Licence: Higher Secondary with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Zoology or Botany; a valid driving licence; at least three years of LMV/HMV driving experience after obtaining the licence; basic automobile-mechanism knowledge; and a first-aid certificate from a recognised organisation in Tamil Nadu.
- Forest Watcher: Minimum General Educational Qualification, along with the post-specific physical and selection requirements.
For degree-level or technical posts, candidates must possess the required qualification by the date specified in the notification. Read the post-wise table and qualification clauses in the official PDF rather than relying on the general SSLC requirement.
Age limit
Age is calculated with reference to 1 July 2026. The minimum age is generally 18 for many posts, while the VAO and certain forest posts have different minimum ages. The maximum age varies by post and community category. Candidates should also check the post-wise age table and community relaxations. The notification requires adequate knowledge of Tamil by the date of notification, subject to the specific provisions and exemptions stated for eligible candidates.
Because the age matrix is not identical for all 46 entries, check the row for the exact post code and your community category in the official notification before applying. Age is calculated as on 1 July 2026. VAO has a different minimum age from most clerical posts, while Executive Officer and forest posts also have post-specific age rules.
Post-specific eligibility restrictions to check
- Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments posts: The notification requires candidates to profess the Hindu religion for the relevant Executive Officer post.
- Tamil Nadu Waqf Board posts: Candidates professing the Muslim religion alone are eligible for the Typist (post code 3846) and Steno-Typist Grade III (post code 3847) entries.
- Forest Guard / Forest Watcher: These posts have additional physical standards and endurance requirements. The endurance test includes a 25 km walk for male candidates and 16 km for female/third-gender candidates, to be completed within four hours.
- Government-service restriction: The notification also contains a restriction for certain candidates outside the specified reserved communities who have completed five years or more in government service. Read clause 4.5 before applying.
TNPSC Group 4 exam pattern 2026
The written examination is a single objective paper of 200 questions, carrying 300 marks, with a duration of three hours. The paper is divided into three parts:
| Part | Subject | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Tamil Eligibility-cum-Scoring Test (SSLC standard) | 100 | 150 |
| B and C combined | General Studies (75 questions) and Aptitude & Mental Ability (25 questions) | 100 | 150 |
| Total | 200 | 300 |
Parts B and C are evaluated only after the candidate secures at least 40% (60 marks) in Part A. The combined 100 questions in Parts B and C carry 150 marks. The notification also lists 90 out of 300 as the minimum qualifying mark for all communities. The Tamil test is set in Tamil; Parts B and C are set in Tamil and English. Differently abled candidates who have studied only English at the Board/University level may opt for General English at SSLC standard instead of the Tamil Eligibility-cum-Scoring Test, subject to the certificate and application conditions in the notification. The detailed syllabus is provided in Annexure III of the official notification.
How to apply for TNPSC Group 4 2026
- Open the official TNPSC application portal.
- Complete One Time Registration (OTR) if you have not registered earlier. The OTR fee is ₹150 and registration remains valid for five years. Existing registered candidates can proceed to the examination application.
- Select Notification No. 11/2026 for Combined Civil Services Examination–IV (Group IV Services).
- Enter personal, educational, community and other required details. Check that the information matches your certificates.
- Choose the applicable post options carefully, particularly if you want to be considered for Forest Watcher or Forest Guard with Driving Licence.
- Upload the required photograph, signature and supporting details as instructed.
- Pay the examination fee of ₹100 unless you are eligible for a fee concession. Online payment options include net banking, card and UPI; applicable service charges may apply.

The notification treats an application as submitted only after the final Submit action. A saved preview alone is not an application. Aadhaar linking is mandatory for creating or accessing the OTR profile. A photograph used for a new OTR profile must have been taken within the previous three months. For this examination application, the separate photograph must be taken on or after 6 October 2026 in a studio against a white background, with the candidate’s name and date printed at the bottom; the signature must meet the stated size and format. Check Annexure I for the exact image dimensions and file requirements. The fee-concession choice also cannot be changed after successful submission, so verify it before submitting.
Important post-option instruction for Forest Watcher and Forest Guard
The online form asks candidates whether they want to be considered for Forest Watcher and Forest Guard with Driving Licence. Candidates who do not want these posts should select the option for posts other than Forest Guard with Driving Licence / Forest Watcher. Candidates who want consideration for all notified posts should select “All the Posts”. The notification says claims made after submitting the application will not be entertained, so make this choice carefully.
These two forest posts also have additional physical standards and post-specific tests. Forest Guard with Driving Licence requires the prescribed driving licence and experience. Forest Watcher and Forest Guard candidates should read the physical standards and selection clauses before choosing the option.
What happens after the application deadline?
The correction window is scheduled from 9 to 11 November 2026. It allows candidates to edit permitted details during the stated period, but it does not replace the need to submit the application before the closing date. TNPSC will publish further updates about hall tickets, certificate verification and counselling on its official website and application portal.
