Eligibility Criteria for POWERGRID Engineer Trainee 2026
GATE 2026 Paper
Applicants must have qualified in the corresponding GATE 2026 paper:
- Electrical Engineer Trainee – GATE EE
- Civil Engineer Trainee – GATE CE
- Computer Science Engineer Trainee – GATE CS
Only the normalized GATE 2026 score is valid. GATE 2025 and earlier scores are not accepted for this recruitment.
Educational Qualification
Candidates need a full-time B.E., B.Tech or B.Sc. (Engineering) degree from a recognised university or institute in the relevant discipline specified in Advertisement CC/04/2025. The normal minimum is 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA. The detailed advertisement provides concessions for SC/ST/PwBD candidates against posts reserved for the relevant category. The accepted degree titles and branch combinations differ by discipline, so applicants should check the original qualification table before applying.
Final-year candidates were eligible only if they expected their final results by 14 August 2026 and met the stated marks and document conditions.
Age Limit
The normal upper age limit is 28 years as on 31 December 2025. Relaxations are available for eligible categories under the original advertisement and applicable Government of India rules. Check the advertisement for the relevant category, post and certificate conditions.
Selection Process and Weightage
POWERGRID’s selection process uses the corresponding GATE 2026 score, Group Discussion and Personal Interview. Candidates must qualify in GATE 2026 and separately qualify in the Personal Interview to be considered for empanelment. The Group Discussion does not have separate qualifying marks. POWERGRID may also use a psychometric assessment as an input during the interview.

Salary and Training Period
Selected candidates are placed in the IDA pay scale of ₹40,000–3%–₹1,40,000 during the one-year training period, with basic pay of ₹40,000 plus applicable IDA, HRA and perks. POWERGRID estimates the annual CTC at approximately ₹11 lakh during training and ₹22.50 lakh after successful completion. Candidates are then absorbed as Engineers in the E2 scale of ₹50,000–3%–₹1,60,000, subject to the appointment conditions. CTC is not the same as monthly in-hand salary.
Application Fee
The application fee is ₹500 and is non-refundable. The detailed advertisement and current notice provide exemptions for specified categories, including SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen; departmental candidates should follow the separate instructions applicable to them. The application is treated as complete only after successful fee payment wherever a fee is applicable.
